Autumn 1

What an amazing week we have had in Year 5! The children have worked incredibly hard across all of their lessons and have had lots of opportunities to develop their learning, demonstrate what they know and, of course, enjoy themselves along the way.

In Writing, we have had a particularly busy week. We finished our modelled write, bringing our learning together before moving on to an independent write. The children wrote their own narrative about a rabbit invading a fairground, giving them the opportunity to put their writing skills into practice independently. We have also started our preparation for Black History Month (BHM) by planning a kennings poem. We are looking forward to seeing how these plans develop into our finished poems.

In Maths, we have reached the end of our topic on rounding. The children completed an assessment to demonstrate their understanding of the work we have covered. We have now moved on to a new area of learning: addition and subtraction using mental strategies. This has given us a chance to begin exploring different ways of working with numbers mentally as we start our new topic.

Our RE learning this week has focused on the Guru Granth Sahib. We have been learning about this important part of Sikhism and continuing to develop our understanding through our RE lessons.

In Geography, we have been developing our map skills by learning about four-figure grid references. The children have been working on understanding how grid references can be used to locate places on a map, building on our geographical skills.

We also had a very special Poetry Day this week! An amazing poet came into school and gave us lots of reasons to laugh. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to enjoy poetry in a different way, and it certainly helped to make the day memorable.

we have also completed our Level 2 Bikeability. The children were amazing and made me very proud.

Overall, it really has been an amazing week in Year 5. From completing independent writing and assessments to developing our geographical and RE knowledge, and enjoying a special Poetry Day, there has been lots going on. Well done, Year 5, for all of your hard work!
