It has been another busy week to end the half term. On Thursday afternoon, we welcomed our families into school as we performed the gymnastics routine that we have been learning all half term with Mrs Winward. During the routine, we had different positions, balances and rolls to do. We had to work together to make sure that everyone was safe and we were all in time. The performance was fabulous and we managed to get a few tears from some parents and staff!
In Maths, we continued to build our understanding of subtraction particularly when using written methods and where there are exchanges. After that we looked at using the addition and subtraction skills that we have learnt over the unit to solve some different problems that involve two steps.
In English, we have been publishing some of our wonderful writing ready for a display to celebrate everything we have learnt this half term from the text Leon and the Place Between. We have also been completing some assessments to see which areas we have good understanding of and which areas we need to continue to work on.
In Science, we thought about what happens to puddles and how washing dries when it is on the washing line. We linked it to our learning in Geography and the process of evaporation. We also looked at the process of condensation and discussed where we might see it and why it happens. We then looked again at the water cycle and the importance these processes play in it.
In Art, we got creative! Taking our inspiration from the sculptor Sokari Douglas Camp, we used rubbish materials such as cardboard boxes, plastic bottles wrappers and egg boxes to create the sculptures that we designed in the previous lesson. We had to think about how we would join the materials together and we used flanges, hinges and slots to help us do this.
For RE this week, we found out that David was a musician and composer and that he created lots of the psalms that we find in the Bible. We looked at how God is described in some of the psalms and what they tell us about his nature. We made posters to show some of the different ways that he is described such as a rock, a shield, a King and a stronghold.
On Wednesday, in PSHE we thought about healthy and unhealthy behaviours. We talked about the difference between unkind, teasing and bullying behaviours and what they might look like. We also discussed why people might show these behaviours and how they can make us feel. We then looked at some strategies that we could use to respond to these different behaviours.
We ended the week and half term with our behaviour treat; Glow in the Dark Dodgeball. It was lots of fun and a great way to celebrate completing our first half term in Year 4.
